Heilfontein Lodge is a self-catering renovated farmhouse with 4 luxury en-suite bedrooms and sweeping views of the valley down to the distant Riviersonderend Mountains. It is an ideal base from which to explore the area by day and return to comfort at night.
Our farm is 13km of gravel road from the main R320 tar road, between Caledon (23km) and Hermanus (40km). It is at the end of the road and quiet, as it overlooks a river and wetland with plenty of birds. Our main crop is protea flowers so there is usually something in bloom. The name "Heilfontein" means "Holy Fountain" and it is so named as it is reputed to have never run dry.
You are welcome to walk and cycle around the farm, swim in the dams or river pools and fish for trout on a "catch and release" basis.
Interaction with Guests
We are nearby and happy to answer any questions about the area.
In South Africa, Tesselaarsdal is known as "the village that apartheid forgot" as people of colour have stayed in the area undisturbed from 1832, when the joint will of Mr & Mrs Tesselaar freed their slaves and left Farm 811 to them. The village only got electricity in 1992 and is still off the beaten track.
Unfortunately, there is no public transport so you will need to walk, cycle or have your own transport.
Other Things to Note
As there are livestock on the farm, we ask that you close gates behind you.
