Heilfontein Country Escape
Where Heaven meets the Earth

A little bit about us...

Heilfontein is a working protea farm, where we harvest Fynbos flowers from plantations and indigenous bush. (If you are a customer interested in buying or viewing our Fynbos flowers, please select the Flower Calendar tab above).

Heilfontein Lodge, Log Cabin and Hermitage are a self-catering homestead (sleeping 8), log cabin (sleeping 6) and wooden cabin (sleeping 2), located on our farm that is situated in the Hemel & Aarde valley, 5 km from the small picturesque town of Tesselaarsdal in the Overberg.  In total, we can accommodate 16 people.  Perfect for guests looking for tranquil, comfortable and scenic lodging, away from the city's hustle and bustle.

We are located on both sides of the Elandskloof River which has recently been restored.  It is a beautiful location which we invite you to share with us.

Take a deep breath and Relax or Enjoy just a few of our activities!

 Swimming in the dam

Swimming – In the Dam about 100m to the west of the Log Cabin or in the Swimming Hole in the River about 800m to the west of the Log Cabin – tea-coloured river water but refreshing!

Trout fishing

Fishing – In the Dam about 100m to the West of the Log Cabin or in the Oak Tree dam on the South side of the river, about 600m to the West of the Log Cabin. Both are offered only on a Catch and Release basis, using non-barbed flies.

Mountain Biking through the farms

Mountain biking – There are lots of quiet dirt roads open to the public, as well as a developing network of single-tracks over private land. Enquire from De Postkantoor café in Tesselaarsdal. (Tel: Sonia on 084-583-7095). The Café is also a great place to stop for breakfast, lunch or a good coffee.

Hiking trails

Walking and hiking – There are lots of paths on Heilfontein Farm for you to use. (Ask us for a copy of the farm map). If you want to access our neighbours’ land (and that includes the mountain) please speak to us in advance and we can usually arrange it. You can walk over the mountains to Stanford (2.5 hrs). Kleinrivier Cheese for picnic (2hrs) and Raka Winery (4 hrs) but it is wise to arrange a lift back. A safe start is to walk to De Postkantoor Café (40min) for breakfast or lunch.

Horse Riding – Naomi Muller (082-783-1802) is a world-class endurance rider who farms and trains horses. If you come to our Log Cabin, you will pass through the electronically operated gate over her farm, some 2km to the North of us.

Wining and Dining - Local is Lekker, if you start with De Poskantoor Cafe in Tesselaarsdal. (Tel: Sonia on 084-583-7095). The nearest Winery to the West is Creation Winery (20km), on the R320 in the Hemel & Aarde Valley. It also has an excellent table and there are several other good wineries in the Valley towards Hermanus. To the East, on the R326 to Stanford, is Raka Winery (25km) which has an extensive range of well-priced wines. There are fine restaurants in Stanford (Mariana's and Havecrofts) and several on the Hermanus route (Spookfontein's Ell, Mogg's Country Kitchen, Newton Johnson etc), but it is wise to book before, as some are seasonal and can often be fully booked.
