A little bit about us...

Heilfontein is a scenic 50Ha protea and cattle farm, situated in the Hemel & Aarde valley, 5 km from the small picturesque town of Tesselaarsdal in the Overberg, where we harvest Fynbos flowers from plantations and indigenous bush. (If you are a flower customer, please select the Flower Calendar tab above).

We offer 2 types of accommodation:

Heilfontein Lodge - a wheelchair friendly, self-catering homestead (sleeping 8 in 4 rooms with en-suite bathrooms) which offers the flexibility of renting it in combinations of 1,2,3 & 4 rooms – each with separate entrances, fully-equipped kitchens and facilities.

Heilfontein Hermitage - a remote and cozy wheelchair friendly, self-catering cottage (sleeping 2), which is pet-friendly and has a large, fenced dog-proof garden. You can also run your dog off-leash on our 50Ha farm.

Both units are renovated to a high standard, offer great linen and include free firewood. In total, we can accommodate 10 people. Perfect for guests looking for tranquil, comfortable and scenic lodging, away from the city's hustle and bustle. We are located on both sides of the Elandskloof River which has recently been restored and we have a 5km hiking trail, on the farm. It is a beautiful location which we invite you to share with us.

Hiking Trails, Walking and Hiking

There are lots of walking paths on Heilfontein Farm and our own 5km Twin Peaks Trail for you to use. If you want to access our neighbours’ land (and that includes the mountain) please speak to us in advance and we can usually arrange it. Hiking access permits are obtainable from De Postkantoor café in Tesselaarsdal. (Tel: Sonia on 084-583-7095). You can walk the historic Barber’s Trail over the mountains to Stanford (2.5 hrs) and leave a car in advance at Phillipskop Reserve, for a lift back. A safe start is to walk to De Postkantoor Café (40min) for breakfast or lunch.

Wining and Dining

Local is Lekker, if you start with De Poskantoor Cafe in Tesselaarsdal. There are 20 wineries, 3 distilleries, 2 breweries and 2 cheeseries all within a 30 min radius of Tesseaarsdal. The nearest Winery to the West is Creation Winery (20km), on the R320 in the Hemel & Aarde Valley. It also has an excellent table and there are several other good wineries in the Valley towards Hermanus. To the East, on the R326 to Stanford, is Raka Winery (25km) which has an extensive range of well-priced wines. There are fine restaurants in Stanford and several on the Hermanus route (Spookfontein, Mogg's Country Kitchen, Newton Johnson etc.), but it is wise to book before, as some are seasonal and can often be fully booked.

In the river there are indigenous Cape Kurper and these can be caught on a Catch and Release basis. Really only suitable for children but what they lack for in size, they make up for in numbers!

Mountain Biking

There are lots of quiet dirt roads open to the public, as well as a developing network of single-tracks over private land. Permits are obtainable from De Postkantoor café in Tesselaarsdal. (Tel: Sonia on 084-583-7095). The Café is also a great place to stop for breakfast, lunch or a good coffee.
